Caden Coyle Intro-Ch.2
I found the first couple chapters to be fascinating in terms of how skill is built. I think as musicians, people often forget that it’s all about the practice you put in and not just raw skill. The video of Clarissa that Coyle mentions is a primary example of what people SHOULD be doing in practice, but don’t. It honestly reminded me a lot of the stuff that was talked about in the Bulletproof Musician seminars. It’s also interesting to note how “talent” is more a measurement of hard work than just raw skill. My brother is a good example of this actually. My brother was the MVP on his Varsity Baseball team in High School. Why? Well it wasn’t because he was naturally strong or just knew a lot about baseball, it’s because he worked himself like crazy to train and gain experience. Athletes and singers or very similar in that way. We all have to work and hone our craft to be good. I appreciate that Coyle uses so many different examples of talent pulls such as the Russian Tennis courts and the Dominican Republic baseball teams. I’m really curious to see where his research and findings will go in the next chapters!
