Camryn-Private Lesson/VRH Weekly Post
This week in my lesson, my teacher and I reviewed my jury sheets from last semester. We discussed some of the technical/musical skills I was improving on and talked about a few things that I can focus on this semester. With that in mind, we warmed my vocal chords up a bit, and focused specifically on making a dark, rounded sound by "wrapping my lips around my teeth". We could hear a change in my tone instantly, which was super cool! Including this, I sang through two pieces to prepare for Voice Recital Hour the next day, and we talked about opening the jaw a bit more, and releasing tension in the mouth to create more resonance and let the sound ring out.
Voice Recital Hour went off to a great start! I loved the variety of music that was performed, and listening to everyone's unique sound! Kylee Bailey-Nuffer really stuck out to me, as her performance was so mesmerizing to watch! From her slate, to the very last note from the piano, she held a strong presence and maintained character the entire performance. Regarding her voice, her sound projected beautifully, and the resonance in her voice filled the room. I didn't sense any tension in her throat, and could physically see her ribs expand as she took in air to maintain constant air flow in the body. Because of these technical aspects Kylee presented in her performance, her sound was filling, and left me with my jaw dropped! I can't wait to see others perform and present what they've been working on! :)
