Carissa-Vocal Overview-9/7/2023

This week in my lesson we mainly worked on deciding on repertoire and working through the psychological things I've been experiencing with singing. Honestly, just to be clear, I have a lot of mental roadblocks when I sing and a large part of my lessons is figuring out how to myelinate productive thought patterns so I don't get in my own way. In regards to the doing of deep practice, I've tried to be really intentional about certain things that have been recommended for me to work on. I've been trying to apply it to my casual singing (the singing I do in the shower or while I'm cooking just for my own enjoyment) to try to avoid myelinating bad habits.

I LOVED voice recital hour this week. I specifically paid attention to Tanner's performance (Hi Tanner!). I know he has sung the same song in voice recital hour before and it was really cool to hear the changes that had been made. Overall the entire showmanship of the performance had been really upscaled which I thought was great. It was very enjoyable to watch. As far as the singing itself, I noticed that there was more consistency in his sound than the last time he had performed it and it seemed more forward (in an appropriate way, in my opinion). It definitely shows that he has practiced it a lot. I also felt like there were some really good stylistic choices made that fit the genre really well. I think the time he had performed it before was really great as well, but I definitely noticed the more consistent sound. I think that was the big thing I noticed that had improved.
