Dombroski-VRH and Lesson

I really enjoyed Abi's performance of "Vanilla Ice Cream" today. I feel like she was able to just open her mouth and sing! She had a relaxed tone but her voice still had direction, which also allowed her to have free vibrato. She enunciated really well, I could tell what every word she sang was. I also just loved her performance. She connected to the piece and I could feel that she put many thoughts into the meaning of the song.

During my lesson on September 11th we spent time working on breathing in "Desire in Spring" by Gurney. I have worked really hard on breathing low, but I forget that I have to breathe with all of my body and not just my abdominals. I also can take fast breaths that can sound like gasping. So we took time between each phrase and I reset my breath each time. Then we worked on "If music be the food of love" by Purcell. I discovered that if I start a phrase on a vowel that is on a note higher than d, I start with a puff of air that sounds like an "h." I worked on adding different nasal consonants and then taking them away to try to start with the pure vowel, and we also transposed it and then moved it up to work on that technique as well. There is also a lot of long phrases in this song, and a few of them I struggle to sing on one breath. So we did the snowman stretch and worked on stretching while singing, and it worked really well.
