Maribelle—Coyle—Chptr 3-4

These chapters are continuing the idea of deep practice, and the tools to curate deep practice. It explores the Brontë sisters, the Z-Boys, and professionals in many fields and how their choices created deep practice. For the Brontë sisters, it was the continuous rewriting of their favorite tales before eventually creating their own tales. The Z-Boys practiced like the Brazilian soccer players in smaller and harder ways, by practicing skating in empty swimming pools. Chapter 4 made me chuckle because it is a blueprint of Cindy’s practice suggestions. It’s from this book, and she works very hard to teach her students how to follow the deep practice template. I was extremely impressed reading about the tennis club that practiced so meticulously, as well as the music teachers and their various ideas. I also chuckled at the musician who talked about how much she hated practicing and couldn’t believe how people could just sit down and play through their music for hours. I relate to that. I love to sing through my songs, but at the beginning, the music is too hard to do so, and those are the moments when I hate to practice. But how can I improve if I don’t do the deep practice? I can’t. So I shall learn to love to practice even the hard parts.
